A 56 year old male was brought into the Emergency Department, he was comatose with hypothermia, hypotonia, hyporeflexia, hypotension, conjunctival injection , slow respiration, acidotic breathing, In ED he was administered Thiamine 100mg IV and get better.


  • What is your diagnosis?
  • What is the role of Thiamine in this case ?

Answer :

  • Alcohol intoxication
  • Thiamine prevents the development of Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome
